Welcome to SLA Web !

  • SLA Web is a large searchable database of L2 spoken and written productions is developed by the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon. Data is collected from learners in grades 6-16 via an online proficiency assessment, the Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency (STAMP) developed by CASLS. The Corpus Tool includes productions from more than 40,0000 learners of Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, Spanish, and Turkish, with more items added regularly. It is freely available online in standardized format, based on the CHILDES database.
The CASLS L2 Databank can be searched using a number of parameters, including school level, class level, immersion and heritage status, and proficiency. This database significantly enhances the amount of SLA data available to researchers and is a rich resource for the SLA community. Possible projects stemming from the resource could include comparison of immersion and non-immersion productions, the development of clause structure or lexicon, or a cross-language comparison of the emergence of a given language function.
